Speech of His Holiness in Pepperdine University, Malibu, USA 20 July 2000 8 PM How many Telugu devotees are here? Please rise your hands .. 5 Thanks. How many Hindi speaking persons here? 4 Good. Thanks. How Many silent language people? Laughs.. Good. Actually language is not needed. But it is only for communication. There are 4 sounds in our body. One is Para Sound. It is very subtle and is difficult to understand. Para sounds represent Akasha Tattva. It is the sound behind the stars and planets. Science also agrees with that. The second is Pashyanti sound. We can feel this sound. If we sit and close our eyes, we can feel it. The Pashyanti and Para sound are closely linked. Para sound is Brahma and Pashyanti sound is like angels. If you try to listen to these sounds, especially the Pashyanti sound, then there will be a good experience. Then we dont need language or communication. There are no feelings. Zero. We call this the beginning of Moksha lessons. The self-realisation path. May be you can attain and control Pashyanti sound with the help of a Sadguru and more importantly through your Sadhana. Sadhana here is the repeated meditation techniques. The Pashyanti sounds vibrate in your body. If you try and feel, you can listen to different planetary sounds. It is very Sookshma. The Pashyanti sound is an important part of Nada Upasana (worship of sound). The Brahma representing Para sound is not possible to attain. It is very high frequency. If you try with devotion and meditation, you can attain and feel Pashyanti sound with our Karma permitting and with Gurus grace. The third sound is Madhyama sound. It is the body language or the gestures and faces you make to let know a feeling. We know that we produce it but we dont understand it. It is like having a feeling that someone is calling but you dont understand it. We dont understand the details. The fourth sound is Vaikhari sound. We understand it. It is loud and with words. Like Raama .. Jesus Krishna . But if I silently mention the same name just by lip movement, you dont understand. Tomorrow evening, Swamiji will be using these four sounds in the healing concert. May ask what is healing music.. ? Will it really heal? Certainly yes. Swamiji goes through your nervous system like a x-ray. The 34th Yoga Sutra says that the Sadguru goes through your body and touches the 74000 Nadis. Vaikhari sound is just the medium. But Swamiji really uses the Pashyanti sound. I listen to your sounds. The sounds you make in your body. What you think I know. I need not explain to you all these. I do so because I am willing today. It is very difficult to understand the working and dreams of Swamiji. I know what his feelings are (points at Jaitra). I can even divert his mind. I dont go through the silly feelings and silly waves your mind and thoughts produce. There are so many silly thought waves here in this auditorium here today. They are clashing.. Merging.. It is a big confusion. When Swamiji gives out the Pashyanti sound, which is crystal clear, your sounds merge in it. If you have doubtful feelings, I dont want it because it is unwanted., I only value soothing, loving, affectionate and reasonable sounds of yours. This is the beginning of sound system. The ancient sound system. The Pashyanti Sound system. If you do Sadhana on this, you can get very happy. You will have no doubts; your prayers are crystal clear. Your wishes and desires are crystal clear. If you go through doubts, then everything is a mess. Then we blame God for not giving happiness. It is because your wave system is not good. To top that you mix it with your ego, family, science and doubts. Then it is a cacophony of waves and sounds. That is why Vedanta says please follow self surrender. We also dont understand that. It is with Love and affection and strong faith. You dont understand what you want. You ask for worldly things and at the same time for Bless and Atma Jnana and Moksha. These are not something that is available in K mart or in a super market. It has no price. You try so many spiritual things. Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga.. Kriya Yoga etc., You try to follow everyone who says I know everything. A well-known and learned Mahatma or saint will be silent and does not claim to know. He does not propagate or canvass. He tries to give that happiness which he is feeling. He does not give lectures but tries practically. Many call Swamiji "Silent Master". Because I dont give lectures for hours and hours. I am like a Bola Shankar. Tomorrow evening healing music will take place. It is the deepest understanding of Patanjalis Yoga theory. Sri Swamiji sings the Bhajan "Pavo Shanarana" C.S. Radhakrishna are you sleeping? Oh No.. Good. Why does Shiva have a round head? Can you explain? CS Radhakrishna: Akasha is like a Lingam. That is the symbol of Lord Shiva that is why we worship him.Sri Swamiji: What is the meaning of a Hindu temple? CSR: The temple is a reflection of a human body. Sri Swamiji: Deha (body) is Devalaya. Body is a moving temple. The physical temple has a basic structure. The pillars are the limbs. The thoracic portion is the inner chamber. Antaraalaya is the inner chamber. Heart is the sanctum sanctorum. The idol is in the chamber. Head is the Kalasha or the apex of the temple. The inhalation and exhalation is the small lamp, which is constantly burning in the Garbha Alayam. The backbone is the Dhwaja Sthambha (flag pole). In Shiva temple a bull is always sitting and watching Shiva. Why is it? Is it his car? No. It is representation of Manas and Buddhi. Mind always thinks of God its original source. In Devi temple, there will be a tiger. In Ganapati temple a mouse. In Vishnu temple an eagle and in Subramanya temple a peacock will always be looking at the deity. That is the link between body and temple. If you have a strict discipline, then we reach Godhead. How to find a right Guru? What is Guru? What is the Guru concept? Gu represents darkness and Ru represents light, the remover of darkness. Guru is one who removes the darkness of ignorance. How to find the right Guru? Should we go by physical features? Shaved? Unshaved? Long hair? How to recognise him? The devotee must have a strong inner urge for the pursuit. Performance of tricks or having a huge following is not a certificate for their power. Should one follow them or fall down? Can one get Jnana without a physical Guru? Mostly it has to be natural and spontaneous. Miracles are mostly like chocolate for children. It is not a permanent phenomenon. You cannot live on chocolate. Strong faith, discipline and devotion and surrender on the part of devotee are important. What is Karma? It is the most misunderstood word. Karma is "TO BE". Can a Guru change Karma? Many claim so. But it is for divine only, that it is possible. It is my good Karma to sing a Bhajan now. Sri Swamiji sings the Marathi language Bhajan "Lagoniya Paaya" Jaya Guru Datta
