Sri Swamiji in Nasik & Trayambakeshwar
Arrival Day - 28th Feb. 2002.

Sri Swamiji arrived in Nasik on the 28th February 2002. This visit was to complete the pilgrimage to Trayambakeshwar Shiva temple which is 10th Shiva Temple amongst the 12 most important Shiva Temples in the world. On the day of arrival, Sri Swamiji visited the Godavari river which flows through the Nasik town.
Arriving at Ram Kund at 5 PM, Sri Swamiji worshipped Godavari river. Then Sri Swamiji visited the Godavari Goddess temple. The area is bustling with pilgrims and temples. Nasik is situated in western Maharashtra State and is place full of Puranic history. It was as if we were on the stage where much of the Puranic events happened. It is this place which occupies a important place in both Ramayana and Maha Bharata. Lord Rama spent 12 years of his exile with wife Seetha and brother Lakshmana. The area is known as Panchavati in Dandakaaranya (Panchavati is the place in the forest Dandakaranya). This area also has the birth place of Lord Hanuman, two of the 12 Shiva temples (Dwadasha Jyotirlingas). Sri Swamiji then visited Kala Ram Temple in the city centre. This ancient temple is being renovated. Sri Swamiji personally performed Puja and Arati to the idols of Rama, Seetha and Lakshmana. Thereafter the chief priest of the temple Pundit Sudhir Prabhakar Pujari performed Pada Puja to Sri Swamiji About ten Shukla Yajurveda Scholars chanted Mantras as he performed Pada Puja in a detailed and orderly manner for over 30 minutes. Sri Swamiji donated Two Hundred thousand rupees (two lakhs) for the temple renovation. The priest expressed his heart felt gratitude to His Holiness for the benevolence.
From there Sri Swamiji visited Seetha Guha (Seetha's cave) where she cooked food for Rama and Lakshmana while in exile. There is also the place where Lord Rama killed Maricha the demon in the form of Maya deer.
