Mass Marriage at Devi Patladamma Temple in Mysore

Every year, Datta Peetham conducts mass marriages in poor areas of Mysore city. On 17th October 2008, Such program was held in Gandhi Nagar, a slum in Mysore city. 24 couples entered their married life on that day. Todate more than 400 such marriages have been arranged by Datta Peetham. This year's program was held in the Devi Patadamma temple which was built by Ashrama for the locality three years ago.

The couples all shy, nervous and anxious get ready for the auspicious moment "Muhurtha" to tie the Mangalya Sutra, a round
gold locket hanging on a turmeric paste infused cotton thread. The groom ties the Mangalya Sutra around the bride's neck. The thread is tied with three knots. This singular act propels the grrom and bride as married couple
