Navaratri 1998 - Report of day eight Sri Swamiji worshipped the Mother Goddess as SARASWATI, the Goddess of Knowledge. After the puja, Sri Swamiji commenced his musical discourse with a Bhajan on Ganapati–"Srikara Gadha Shiva Gana natha!" Thereafter he sang two new Bhajans on Saraswati. Mother Sarada! You reside on the mountain of Shringeri (Karnataka State). You are the consort of Brahma, the Creator. You bestow auspicious boons. You are of the form of the Mother Goddess Sankari (Parvati). You have incarnated on the earth as Sarada of Shringeri, to enable the devotees to obtain liberation. You have incarnated to set a standard in performing rituals. In your Ubhaya Bharati incarnation, you were the consort of the great scholar Mandana Misra (an incarnation of Brahma). You have firm determination to guide people to the Supreme Goal, i.e., oneness with the Divinity. You glorify the Peethams (centres of spiritualism) established by Adi Shankaracharya (an incarnation of Shiva). You protect those who serve you. You relieve us of all our grievances. You are pleased by the tune of this Bhajan - set to Aabhogi raga. You are Sachchidnanda (Truth-Knowledge-Bliss). You are ever brilliant. You grant intellectual brilliance to the scholars. You grant firmness of mind to the seeker as a fruit of his realisation of knowledge. You bestow the achievement of Supreme Knowledge. You are famous for the brilliance of knowledge. You are established on earth in Shringeri. You are matchless! You are SAT-CHIT-ANANDA (Truth-Knowledge-Bliss). Swamiji concluded the music session with two well known Bhajans "Jaya Jaya Vani Saraswati"and "Vande Vande Vaneem" Special Message: "This year Navaratri festivals here are special. They are conducted in the Nada Mantapa. I am happy that good spiritual vibrations emanate here. You can feel them. Tomorrow, Chandi Homa will be performed. Swamiji will touch your Ajna Chakra (the spiritual circle just at the middle of the eyebrows on the forehead) in an invisible form, at any time from the morning to evening tomorrow. This a special blessing to be given to by Swamiji. Hence all of you must be more attentive tomorrow. Chant any mantra like "Om Im Hreem Sreem" or "Dram Datta" or any mantra given as initiation". I pray to Goddess Saraswati to grant health, wealth and Divine Knowledge to you all. Today morning Sangita seva (music service) was rendered by Smt. Raja Lakshmi by her pleasant Veena concert of classical carnatic style. Sri H.V. Ramaswamy gave a very fine classical carnatic vocal concert in the evening.
