Upanishat Wisdom - Only Recourse for the Retreat to the Self and the Resultant Bliss

Gist of the speech of Dr. Vishnubhatla Subrahmanya Sastry, Hyderabad

However great the human beings could be, they all are suffering a lot from sorrows. “What could be the reason for such sufferings and sorrows?” is one of the most touted questions amongst public. Sage Goutama opined in his principle of logic that Birth is the cause of sorrow. In other words, sorrow is inevitable for those who are born. When questioned about the reason for taking the birth, the reply was that it was Pravrutti (action). Pravrutti is of two types. One is in accordance with Dharma and the other pattern outlawed by the Dharma. Acts that are not violated by the tenets of Dharma, result in a befitting and better birth (janma). Vice versa, Adharmik action, causes birth which is full of sorrows or consigns to the perpetrator to hell.

Question: “What could be the reason for this Pravrutti?”
Answer: Passion and aversion result in this kind of Pravrutti.

The next question in this quest induced series, is: “What could be the reason for the passion and hatred?” Answer: These are caused by the failure of distinguish the impermanent from the permanent. (Mistaking this physical materialistic body comprising of the sensory organs for the soul and vice versa is the result of illusion.)

Thus illusion is the root cause of all the suffering by a human. To uproot this, one must beget knowledge. This is the only way. The knowledge capable of obliterating this knowledge is not the normal sensory knowledge, but knowledge pertaining to the all pervading Para Brahama. That is Brahma Gnana. No other kind of knowledge is of any avail. That supreme knowledge is attained thru Brahma Vidya only. Brahma Vidya is the subject of Upanishat. That is why the Upanishat is being referred to as Brahma Vidya.

The Knowledge enshrined in Upanishat offers the idea of Brahma to the living beings. By that, the false dictum of ‘I’ (Ahankaara) in the living beings as well as their wordly bondage is annihilated in entirety. As a result, its products, the illusion, which causes passion and hatred, and its results, the actions and inactions; and resultant sorrows are averted or exterminated. Once the impediments to the realization of Supreme Self and its innate Bliss are removed, discovery of the true and ever lasting ecstasy within is possible.

Thus, the wisdom of Upanishat, becomes the source of Bliss of ever lasting nature. May all the human beings follow the sayings and spirit of these upanishat texts and get rid of all sorrows and sufferings! May they finally get relieved of all their sins and become blissful ultimately!!
