To ameliorate the evil effects of violence towards creatures, reptiles
especially Serpents, (perpetrated by a person or his/her family members
in this birth or previous births), Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Puja is performed
in Datta Peetham annually. Those afflicted by chronic skin diseases, infertility,
frequent sickness are normally categorised by the elders as suffering from
Sarpa Dosha. Great Saints such as Sri Swamiji diagnose symptoms of Sarpa
Dosha, different from these visible signs and prescribe participation to
devotees occasionally. Devotees can decide for themselves, and choose the
category of participation as permitted by their convenience. They can also
perform for their relatives or friends in their absence.
This year, Sri Swamiji has decided that Naga Pratishtha ( Installation
of a Naga Devata Idol) would mark the Sarpa Dosha Shanti.
