Bhajans - A Ray of hope

As age advances, the human body begins to decline and decay, and becomes an asylum for not one, but many diseases. For the prevention of such diseases, many 'asanas'(postures) are prescribed in Yoga Shaastras. There are postures also for controlling every limb of the body. Among such 'asanas' those concerning breathing are important and noteworthy.

Failure or loss of memory is mostly due to impure 'Nadis'. By excercising proper check over the Nadis and keeping them trim and fit, supplemented by the practice of 'asanas' suggested in the Yoga Shastras for the purpose, weakening or loss of memory can be prevented. To conserve memory power one should regularly offer prayers to one's Guru. The practice of offering prayers to God and Guru before starting the daily routine, was and still is prevalent among the folloers of other faiths. It is a pity that such a noble and healthy habit which was available to Hindus until recently, is now disappearing. We have now no control whatever over even such mundane activities as eating, drinking, sleeping, playing etc. We are now literally living to eat rather than eating to live. Our community may appear to be healthy superficially, but internally it is being slowly and steadily consumed by many diseases.

Devotion to God and reverence for teachers and elders have become rare traits now. It has been established by experience that by offering prayers to one's teacher regularly, breathing will be lengthened and the diseases residing in the body will be gotten rid of. Sincere prayer with a single pointed mind full of devotion, is conducive to the development of retentive memory. That those who practise 'pranayama' regularly everyday with faith born of prayer are blessed with good and sound health and long life, requires no proof.

It is therefore necessary to regulate our breathing. By irregular breathing, the foul air formed in and discharged from the lower parts of the body, instead of going out though the proper channel, enters the upper parts causing severe damage to those parts. This, in addition to weakening memory may produce an unsound mind.

In direct proportion to the facilities, comforts and luxuries made available by science and technology today, man has become more and more reckless and indolent, and therefore susceptible to new diseases everyday and everywhere. In the face of such an appalling and gravely disheartening state of human affairs, there is a ray of hope that can still save man from the certain doom looming large over the horizon. After many researches and trials, a means has been found to prevent the occurrence of such health hazards. It is the Ashrama Bhajans which have been so designed as to possess the qualities of Yogic postures and the Kriyas(activities) described in the Yoga Shastras. By singing these Bhajans in the manner and style taught by Sri Swamiji, all known and unknown, and seen and unseen diseases, hidden in both the gross and subtle bodies, can be rooted out successfully.

All that we are doing now and will do in future is due to the power of the Almighty. This should be understood by all clearly. The effect of this Divine Maya or sport is that every human being on this earth is subject to one kind of worry or other. One has to worry oneself even to tell a truth or utter a falsehood. Our thoughts may be vulgar or good, but we are worried about the outcome of those thoughts. The worry concerning one's progress on the spiritual path is not a worry. It provides a sort of tonic to our nervous system and the intellect. Other kinds of worries culminate in the death of a person.
