Light

The disciple was sitting in a dark room. "Is my pen on your table?" asked his teacher.
"I don’t know. I am not able to see anything" said the disciple. The teacher switched on the light.
"Here it is! Sir, your pen is here" said the student immediately.
"How were you able to see it?" asked the teacher.
Disciple: There is light now. So I am able to see.
Teacher: You were able to see the pen with the help of light. With whose help are you able to see the light?
Disciple: With the help of the eyes, sir. If one has eyes, one can see. A blind person can not see.
Teacher: Good. It is light that shows the pen. It is the eyes that show you the light. So, can we say that the eye is the light of light?
Disciple: Certainly!
Teacher: Assume that you have closed your eyes. Won’t you really see anything then?
Disciple: Mmmm.. Of course, I am able to visualize my past experiences and imaginations.
Teacher: Do you know if your eyes are functioning properly or not?
Disciple: Yes, I know.
Teacher: This means, just as your eyes are able to see the light, there must be someone who is seeing if your eyes are functioning properly or not. Who is that?
Disciple: It is my mind, sir.
Teacher: True. But, even this mind functions properly sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. There must be someone inside you, who tells you if your mind is working properly or not. Isn’t it? Who is it??
Disciple: It must be ‘Me’. It cannot be anybody else.
Teacher: Yes. That indeed is the truth. The light that shows the pen is light from the bulb. The light that shows this light is the eye. The light that shows the eye is the mind. The light that shows the mind is yourself! There is no light higher than you!! You are the true light!!!
