Dattatreya Principle

Sadvritta samsevyamachintya vrittam
vineeta vandyam navaneeta hridyam
Sadvidya vedyam nitaraam avedya
dattam gurum chitra gunam namaami
(Sri Datta Dhyaana Maalika)

The opportunity of serving Him will be available only to those possessing good behavior. However, His behavior is beyond comprehension. He accepts the obeisance of those who are humble in their approach. His heart is as tender as butter. Only those who are endowed with Sadvidya can understand Him. But, in reality, He is not Œthe knowbleš! (because He Himself is the form of Knowledge). To that Lord Dattatreya, who appears to possess strange and seemingly opposite qualities, I offer my prostration.
