Today is the 7th day of Navaratri and the principle deity is Goddess Saraswati. Saraswati is the Goddess for Gnana (knowledge). Her instrument is Veena (stringed instrument) and Her vehicle is Swan.
Sri Swamiji came out at 9 a.m. wearing a beautiful white silk saree and led the procession around the prayer hall with the Palanquin carrying the idol of Goddess Raja Rajeshwari.
The morning music concert was Carnatic Veena concert by Smt. E. Gayatri of Madras. She is a very famous musician both in India and abroad. She was accompanied by Sri. Madiri Mangalam Swaminathan on Mridangam and Sri. R.S. Purushottam on Kanjeera. Smt. Gayatri played several compositions on Devi brilliantly.
Anna Archana to Saraswati performed with Sihi Pongal , a sweet rice dish of South India. This prasadam was given to the devotees after the Purnahuti of Saraswati Homa.
The afternoon music concert was a Carnatic Vocal duet concert by Sri. R.K. Padmanabha and D.V. Nagaraj. They were accompanied by Sri. B. Rearm on violin, Sri. Anoor Dattatreya Sharma on Mridangam and Sri. Dayananda Mohite on Ghatam. The duet sang Sri Swamiji's composition "Amba Bhavani Sharade" in Shanmukha Priya raga very well.
After the Dolotsava the Bhajan session started at 6:15 p.m. Sri Swamiji in His discourse said:-
"Generally Saraswati is seated on rocks , Lakshmi stands in a Lotus and Parashakti is depicted holding a sword. Saraswati is shown holding a Veena and wearing a white saree. Her vehicle is Hamsa bird. Hamsa is Ananda Brahma, Veena is our spinal cord and the White saree depicts knowledge. But such beautiful Goddess is shown sitting on a rock. The rock represents our head which is very hard to crack. She is sitting on our heads. That is told though our speech is her music through Veena. She is Shabda Brahma. She is the giver of knowledge. The knowledge she gives flows from our Sahasrara downwards. The Blessing of Saraswati is important. She is all the 24 principles and the 64 knowledge and 52 Beejaaksharas. In Girija Kalyana story, Shiva breaks the body of Devi and throws them around. Those parts became all those existing alphabets in this world. All sorts of sounds were from those pieces of the Devi body. Pray Saraswati daily when you get up. She should be the first name to be remembered every morning".
Today Swamiji's new Bhajan has the 40 names of the Devi from the Lalitha Trishati .
